Past Achievements

  • A sociologist by training, she researched social and political changes in East Europe and ex-Yugoslavia for twenty years.

  • Long time member of the Yugoslav democratic opposition

  • President of the Fund for an Open Society Yugoslavia since its inception; currently serving as the president of the board

  • 1991-1995: Served as one of the two co-chairs of the International Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly, a broad coalition of civic movements, groups and initiatives, which was founded in Prague, October 1990.

  • 2005: The Ministry of Human and Minority Rights of Serbia named Ms. Licht a recipient of the annual Award for Tolerance.

 

Current Projects

·       Chairs the Task Force on the Future of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, established by the East-West Institute, New York/Prague, with Yugoslav and international membership

·       President of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, a part of the Council of Europe’s Network for Democracy Program. The Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence’s main objective has been to build and promote a sustainable and responsible leadership in the political and civil society spheres of Serbia and Montenegro during the multi-layered process of European integration.

Member of the Network of Political Schools of South Eastern Europe. In 1993, BFPE helped to fund the Belgrade School of Political Studies in an effort to create the much-needed cadre of politically educated, socially conscious future leaders of the region.
